Kansai ; an Environmentally Advanced Region
Contributing to the Solution of Global Environmental Issues with Superior Technology
When the Kansai region faced problems with water contamination in Lake Biwa and other water resources as well as air pollution and waste from factories during the high economic growth period, the region solved the vital challenge of simultaneously achieving economic growth and protecting the environment through continued, concerted efforts by the public and private sectors and the culmination of corporate technological development. As a result, excellent technologies and products relating to environment and energy are being produced there. We believe that Kansai, as an “Environmentally Advanced Region,” helps various countries and regions, including other Asian countries, with efforts to achieve economic growth while protecting the environment.
Aiming at widely publicizing superb environmental- and energy-related technologies in the Kansai region and promoting business opportunities for such technologies and products, Kankeiren first published the booklet containing various case studies in 2008 with the help of many people and concerned organizations. Since then, we have improved and annually updated it to include the latest technologies. We prepare the booklet in three languages—Japanese, English and Chinese—in book and website forms, which has been read by many people.
We sincerely hope that this booklet will be useful to create business opportunities for environment - and energy- related technologies and products between companies in Asian and other foreign countries and Japan (Kansai). Through such activities, Kankeiren will contribute to sustainable development throughout the world and the resolution of global environmental problems.
